In most cases, standard polypropylene semi-finished products are divided into PP homopolymer (abbreviation PP H) and PP copolymer (abbreviation PP CoPo). PP Homopolymer is the most common PP and sheets and rods made of PP H are characterized by good properties such as very good weldability, high alkali and acid resistance, very low weight, no water absorption and good recyclability. Compared to sheets made of PE, polypropylene sheets have higher strength and surface hardness.
PPH / PP Copo: The materials - technical properties
A weakness of the semi-finished products made of PP homopolymer is the lack of resistance to cold. If the temperature drops below 0°C, the glass temperature is quickly reached and a sheet or round bar made of PP H can break like glass. In order to mitigate this problem and make the PP cold-resistant down to approx. minus 20°C, a few PE (polyethylene) molecules are incorporated into the molecular chains of the PP H (depending on the location and process, a distinction is made here between further sub-varieties of the PP CoPo). These few PE molecules act like plastic links in a metal chain and make sheets and rods made of PP CoPo somewhat softer, more elastic and more resistant to cold compared to PP H.
We offer PP CoPo as a special variant, as a standard we offer sheets and rods made of PP homopolymer and the following delivery program also refers to this.
